History / Background - Click to visit the Longfords Mini Site

The sympathetic conversion of a Victorian Woollen Mill into a wide range of Houses and Apartments set on the edge of Gatcombe Lake, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.
Longfords Mill was one of a number of woollen mills which flourished in this area in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

The site comprises an imaginative blend of sympathetically restored listed dwellings and new properties, built to the highest standard with traditional materials to complement this unique location. This tranquil waterside setting abounds with wildlife and provides a unique environment to be enjoyed exclusively by those living at Longfords Mill. Many of the homes overlook Gatcombe Lake and Waterfalls which lead down to streams in the Wooded Valley.
The mellow limestone buildings have been renovated to a high standard, retaining, wherever possible, their steep stone roofs, sculptured windows, mouldings etc. whilst incorporating modern design features. There will also be new waterside houses and apartments incorporated into the development which have been Architect designed in a style sympathetic to the original buildings.

Careful management will be important to protect the future lifestyle and environment necessary for the residents of Longfords Mill. Accordingly an appropriate management scheme has been established to ensure the future of the water-courses and the wildlife habitat, in addition to maintenance of common parts.
